The book and journal are very impressive and filled with practical information that is easy for ‘regular’ people to follow – lifestyle changes big and small that can help you lose weight and then maintain your healthy weight.  The book’s 3 sections are easy to follow and have easy to follow illustrations:

  • Lose It – Add some good habits and get rid of some bad habits.  The quick start weight loss is a great motivation to continue with the plan.
  • Live It – This is the long term plan which allows for continued weight loss and weight maintenance when you hit your healthy weight.
  • Extra Stuff  - Recipes, charts and lots of helpful technical information, nutritional information and encouragement.

The companion journal is very helpful. Normally, I think a blank spiral notebook makes a good journal, but in this case I think the official one is worthwhile. The charts and planning tools make it very easy to keep track of things throughout the initial Lose It section and the long term Live It section. If you’re doing this with a friend or family member, you may want to share the actual book and get a separate journal for each of you.

The book makes sense to me. They’ve done the medical research and the practical ‘human nature’ research to come up with a plan that people can follow!

For those of you not familiar with Mayo Clinic: Mayo Clinic is the first and largest integrated, not-for-profit group practice in the world. Doctors from every medical specialty work together to care for patients, joined by common systems and a philosophy that the needs of the patient come first.

(I will not include a long winded speech with my views on healthcare at this point – but I will say that Mayo’s non-profit status and their philosophy of putting the needs of patients first has my seal of approval – only wish that other clinics shared and practiced these same philosophies – and in the spirit of full disclosure, my brother is a Mayo doctor and I have personally used their emergency room services…)

    The Mayo Clinic has always had great information about health and nutrition. They have a lot of great recipes there also. They really stress learning how to eat properly. They have great online support.
