Shirley J has been around for over 30 years – can’t believe I hadn’t heard about this wonderful company until recently. Their flagship product is the Shirley J Universal Sauce and it is amazing. This one product is the building block for thousands of recipes – yes, thousands!

The Universal Sauce really is as easy and versatile as the video shows. It fits in perfectly with the way I cook. I tend to buy what’s in season and on sale and Shirley J allows me to make creative dishes with whatever I have on hand.

The bag is large and economical. It only takes a few minutes to create a rich and creamy sauce using just the mix and water. Then I can add in extras to make a special meal. They have a lot of recipes on their site, but once I started playing with it I had all kinds of creative ideas.

The first thing that caught my eye was the Shrimp Cream Sauce recipe. I didn’t have any shrimp and didn’t want to wait, so I made a similar dish without shrimp – just added sun-dried tomatoes and garlic to the Universal Sauce mix and it was fabulous. I’ve also made gravy by adding bullion to the mix – easy peasy. I’ll be making broccoli soup this week and have several other recipes picked out to try.
