Giveaway – Momover by Dana Wood – Ends 4/7/10
Momover
The New Mom’s Guide To Getting it Back Together
by Dana Wood
isbn 978-1440500305
Pub. Date 3/18/10
Book description:
mom·over (noun): mashup of “mom” and “makeover” minus the pressure to look like a total babe 24/7. (Unless that’s what the mama wants, of course.) Holistic; encompasses mind, body and spirit. Nudges her to take primo care of herself, with zero guilt & tons of support. Beneficial to entire family.
Okay, so every day since the baby was born has been a dirty sweats/no mascara/bad hair day kind of day. You don’t need your mother to tell you it’s time to lose that just-home-from-the-hospital-look before it sticks forever. You’ve got Dana Wood, patron saint of stylish new moms everywhere, to show you how to take world-class care of yourself — drumroll please — after the baby’s born, and beyond!
Based on this book, Dana Wood and I have very different ideas on motherhood. I expected my life to change dramatically when I had children and it did. Even if I had the financial resources that she does, I would not have wanted a baby nurse, a full time nanny during the week and extra live in help for weekends. I wanted to spend that time with my babies.
The things she suggests in the book worked for her and her New York City corporate lifestyle. Many women have found her advice to be very helpful and have similar ideas on parenting.
However, even though our basic mindset is different, I did find some good information in the book. And I like to read and learn from others who have different opinions. It’s well written, nicely organized and easy to follow. Many of the ideas for things like diet and exercise would be helpful for moms who don’t have full time help. And you can learn basic principles about taking care of yourself even if your family budget doesn’t look like hers.

I don’t understand having a nanny to raise your kids. My mother is practically raising my nephew for my sister. I swear she sees him about 5 hours a week. But I would still like to read this book.
