About - Metal Ink is the world’s 1st tattoo-inspired crowdsourcing graphic t-shirt company. This exciting new participatory design project enables tattoo enthusiasts, professionals and amateurs alike, to create tees using their original tattoo designs. We like to call it wearable body art.

Metal Ink has set their business up in a creative way! Artists have submitted their designs and then viewers have commented and voted to determine which ones will be made. This has given even amateur artists a chance to share in the profits and get their artwork out in public. Each of the designs has a definite tattoo feel to it and their are styles for men and women.

The Beauty and the Beast shirt was the Tattoo Tee of the year. It was designed by an artist named ‘matchstickman’ who has also submitted other artwork to the site. He received a cash prize and also gets an income from the shirts that are sold.

The printing on the shirt is great – they’ve managed to maintain the tattoo look on the shirt. All of their shirts are made in a sweatshop-free environment in Los Angeles – hooray!

The sizing was totally accurate on the shirt I received. Per my son, it’s “just perfect!” And $19 each for the men’s shirts is less than I would have expected for wearable art!
