Giveaway – Walkers Shortbread Gift Tin – 2 Winners – Ends 5/25/11

Walkers Shortbread

About: The Walkers story begins over a hundred years ago in 1898, when the twenty-one year old Joseph Walker opened the doors of his own bakery with a loan of £50 and the dream of making the finest shortbread in the world.
In the first year of business, Joseph used every spare moment to perfect his shortbread recipe, and it was time well spent. Soon, shooting parties from the local estates were making detours to Joseph’s bakery.
As his fame spread, and demand increased for his quality shortbread, Joseph took the first steps to expanding the business by moving to a larger shop in the Speyside village of Aberlour and investing in a horse and cart to deliver his baking further afield.
By the 1970s, Joseph’s grandchildren had begun exporting Walkers shortbread to over 60 countries around the world – still baking to his original recipe. Within a decade, they won the first of three Queen’s Awards for Export Achievement – the highest accolade given to British exporters.

Just hearing the name Walkers Shortbread makes my mouth water. Each piece has the perfect taste and texture. They remind me of homemade, except that their shortbread is usually prettier than mine.

The shortbread is definitely a special treat. I enjoy taking a break from my workday to have a shortbread cookie and a cup of coffee. It’s a satisfying way to recharge. In fact, I plan to reward myself with a cookie and coffee when I cross a few more things off of my to do list!

Walkers Shortbread can be purchased in ‘regular’ packaging or in special gift tins. The Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie Gift Tin is beautiful. It’s picture captures a piece of Scottish history. The tin is a nice keepsake that you’ll want to use long after the cookies are gone.

The shortbread is just as wonderful as I expected it would be. There is a lovely assortment of rounds, fingers, ovals and triangles. They’re all shortbread, but for some reason I like the fingers the best. They’re a little bit thicker than the other shapes.

One Walkers Shortbread cookie is perfectly satisfying for me. It’s a simple treat that makes me happy!
