Giveaway – Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith – 5 Winners – Ends 3/8/10

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
by Seth Grahame-Smith

isbn 9780446563086
Pub. Date 3/2/10

Publisher’s description: Indiana, 1818. Moonlight falls through the dense woods that surround a one-room cabin, where a nine-year-old Abraham Lincoln kneels at his suffering mother’s bedside. She’s been stricken with something the old-timers call “Milk Sickness.” “My baby boy…” she whispers before dying. Only later will the grieving Abe learn that his mother’s fatal affliction was actually the work of a vampire. When the truth becomes known to young Lincoln, he writes in his journal, “henceforth my life shall be one of rigorous study and devotion.

When I first saw the title of this book, I was instantly drawn to it. When I saw the author’s name, I knew I had to read it.

Seth Grahame-Smith also wrote the mash-up book, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. He beautifully blended the original text of Jane Austin’s classic with a twisted zombie tale to create a very entertaining novel. With Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, he blends his vampire tale with US History and I was able to see Abraham Lincoln in a whole new way.

The book is a masterpiece and I was totally entertained as I learned about Abe and his family’s vampire adventures. It’s shocking that in all my years in the public school system, absolutely NONE of my teachers even mentioned that Abraham Lincoln was, indeed, a vampire hunter. ;)

I think this would be such fun to read. My granddaughter has been doing a semester-long study of Abe Lincoln and I’d venture to say that she has never come across this information either. ;-) (She’d love it too!)
